"Casino Royale" has the answers to all my complaints about the 45-year-old James Bond series, and some I hadn't even thought of. It's not that I didn't love some of the earlier films, like some, dislike others and so on, as that I was becoming less convinced that I ever had to see another one. Next, in Madagascar, Bond chases a bomb-wielding suspect into an embassy and shoots him on camera. M orders Bond to disappear for a while, and Bond uses his time off to pursue some bad guys. Summary: In 1969 seven strangers find themselves at the El Royale, a novelty hotel at the border of California and Nevada. But as the strangers — including a priest, a vacuum cleaner salesman, a Southern gangster, and a former singer — settle into their rooms, they discover that something strange is afoot inside and outside the hotel. M tells Bond that Le Chiffre just set up a high stakes Texas Hold 'Em poker match at the Casino Royale in Montenegro for 10 players, with an entry fee at $10 million each plus a $5 million buy-back should they lose all their money. M arranges to place Bond in the game as a replacement for a syndicate member, since he's the best poker player in MI6. Casino Royale runs 144 minutes, so 9 minutes have to be trimmed somewhere, and this scene IS a bit drawn-out. We know Bond's going to survive because the game isn't over.
